The NHS has been targeted with reducing its carbon footprint massively:

• 2015 10% - 2,120,000 tonnes
• 2020 34% - 7,208,000 tonnes
• 2030 64% - 13,568,000 tonnes
• 2050 80% - 17,960,000 tonnes

While no direct funding is available from Government, suppliers have begun to offer scrappage schemes and this new site is the first to collate details of those schemes and provide comparable information for use by NHS staff when compiling business cases to justify future investments.

N.B. Several well publicised initiatives in other sectors have been supported with significant scrappage schemes, but as you will see below the carbon reduction targets are negligible in comparison:

• Car Scrappage www.ukcarscrappagescheme.co.uk - 240,000 tonne reduction expected from 300,000 new cars each funded by £1,000 from Government and comparable amounts from motor manufacturers.

• Boiler Scrappage www.boilerscrappagescheme.co.uk - 140,000 tonne reduction expected from 125,000 homes each funded with £400 from Government.
